Dominique Astruc Anderson was born in Paris, France where she earned a Certificate in Art History at the School of the Louvre. Additional formal studies in fine arts include classes in traditional oil painting techniques at the Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus, and sculpture classes at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Dominique has drawn and painted most of her life. Her work has included portraits of people and animals, large murals for restaurants, and most recently, she has been refinishing and painting wood furniture with exotic animal, insect and floral designs. Since 2012 she has been spending time each year in the rainforests of south-west Costa Rica where she gathers material for much of her work.
In addition to her art-related accomplishments, Dominique has also earned a double-major BA degree from the Sorbonne, Paris in Spanish and Portuguese, an MA from the University of Virginia in French Literature, and she has taught Spanish and French at Western Albemarle High School for nearly 2 decades.
Dominique and her husband Bob Anderson, also an artist, live in Charlottesville, VA, and are resident members of the McGuffey Art Center.
